The meeting was also attended by the leaders of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) including the Chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq among others. However, Syed Ali Shah Geelani boycotted the event to register a symbolic protest against Pakistan.

Basit said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is committed to peace between the two countries and that they want to build on the positivity which was reflected in the Russian City of Ufa.

“We all want all issues of importance between Pak and India to be discussed. We hope that very soon our leaders meet and resolve all issues of importance between our two nations,” the high commissioner was quoted as saying by Indian media.

“I want to assure you that our PM Nawaz Sharif is committed to peace between our two nations.”

On July 10, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian Counterpart Narendra Modi met in Ufa on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and expressed readiness to discuss all outstanding issues to promote peace and development in the region.

“Pakistan is committed to build on positivity which was reflected in Ufa. We hope that we can make a good beginning,” Basit said.

The high commissioner also thanked Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for participating in the event, and vowed to extend all possible support to the people of Kashmir in their struggle for securing their right to self-determination.
