KHARTOUM:  More than 60 people lost their lives in a gold mine collapse in the Darfur region of western Sudan, a police spokesman said on Thursday.

The collapse happened in the Jebel Amir area of North Darfur, Ahmed Amr said.

A member of parliament from the area said it happened on Monday, but word had only reached Khartoum on Thursday.
