RAWALPINDI: The Alhe Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi on Monday described the Rawalpindi sectarian violence as a well-planned conspiracy and announced to stage a nationwide protest on Friday against the tragic incident.

On Friday, at least 10 persons were killed and many others injured in a clash between two groups in relation to the harassment of an Ashura procession in Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazar area, prompting the authorities to call army and impose curfew in the city.

“I have asked Punjab Chief Minister to immediately probe the sectarian violence and bring the perpetrators of the riots to book,” the ASWJ said said while addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi on Monday.

The ASWJ chief also held the Rawalpindi administration responsible. He said that traders suffered losses worth Rs6 billion as more than 200 shops were torched.

Moreover, he demanded that all religious gatherings should be restricted inside boundary walls and there should be complete ban on rallies.
