QUETTA: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Friday reiterated his commitment to restore peace in restive Balochistan province, saying that “a strong Balochistan guarantees existence of a strong Pakistan.”

“Balochistan is an important province where Pakistan army is playing its role for the development and prosperity of the people. We wish that children of Balochistan don’t only server as mine workers but they gain higher posts by getting a better education,” Kayani said while addressing Defence Day ceremony in Military College Sui.

The army chief ruled out any military operation is going on in the province, saying that “not even a single soldier of Pakistan Army is taking part in operation anywhere.”

Kayani said that army would make available all possible assistance to ensure security and complete cooperation for the improvement of law and order situation in the province.

Earlier, in his message on defense of Pakistan day, the army chief said “Pakistani nation is fully capable to defend the borders and it will also succeed in the war against terrorism.”

The army chief said September 6 is a very important day in the history of Pakistan. He said it is the day when Pakistani soldiers wrote a new history of bravery and sacrifices by defeating an enemy which was far bigger in number.

Kayani said the enemy cannot cast an evil eye on Pakistan as its people are united to defend the homeland.

On Thursday, the army chief held a meeting with Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and discussed the overall security situation of the province.

The COAS assured the Balochistan government of complete support in its bid for the restoration of peace in the province. He said the army will make available all possible assistance to ensure security and complete cooperation for the improvement of law and order in the province.
