RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has affirmed that all terrorists, their facilitators, abettors and financiers will be apprehended and brought to justice.
“Inshallah with unflinching national resolve and clear direction, we will accomplish our end objective of a terror free Pakistan,” the army chief said during his visit to the Khyber tribal region on Friday.
In its press release issued on Friday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the COAS spent the entire day with troops and tribals in Khyber agency today after he returned from Moscow last night.
The COAS first visited Jawaro near the Pak-Afghan border and reviewed the progress of ongoing operation ‘Khyber-2’ in its concluding phase.
While talking to troops, he commended their professional commitment and paid rich tributes to them for their sacrifices in restoration of peace and normalcy to the troubled region of Khyber agency.
General Raheel said that the terrorist’s strongholds in the agency have been reduced and now fight is in progress in the last few pockets close to the Pak-Afghan border.
“Noose has been tightened and terrorists will not be allowed to reestablish themselves,” he said.
The COAS said that the area in which operation has been carried out was heavily infested with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) mostly foreign made and that after North Waziristan agnency, terrorists in Khyber agency were using the most rugged terrain as their prepared strongholds.
The army chief, according to the ISPR, also visited de-radicalization centre in Khyber agency’s Bara tehsil where surrendered of ‘Operation Khyber’ are being imparted education and vocational training.
The COAS complimented the tribal brethren for their full support to evict terrorists from the agency and also appreciated their resolve of not allowing terrorists to return to these areas. He specially paid rich tributes to Shuhada and wounded.
General Raheel Sharif also complimented the efforts of all law enforcement agencies in their counter terrorism efforts all across the country.
Earlier on his arrival at Khyber agency, the COAS was received by Corps commander 11 Corps Lieutenant General Hidayat Ur Rehman.
