MALE: The 54-year-old leader of Maldives’ Progressive Party Abdullah Yameen defeated former president Muhammed Nasheed in the Saturday’s run-off presidential elections, according to the preliminary results.
The polls were held on Saturday across the country, hoping that it will bring an end to two years of political turmoil.
The final results of the presidential run-off will be announced officially on Sunday, Maldives Elections Commissioner Fuad Thoufeek said.
