93% urban, 86% rural areas being provided uninterrupted electricity: Asif

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has said that 93 percent urban and 86 percent rural areas are being provided uninterrupted power supply at ‘Iftar’, ‘Taraweeh’ and ‘Sehri’ timings.

In a statement in Islamabad on Saturday, the Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif said that forced load shedding has been controlled with improvement in power supply.

The minister said that gradually the situation is returning to normal schedule load shedding during the day and no load shedding during ‘Iftar’, ‘Taraweeh’ and ‘Sehri’.

Moreover, he said that the supply of electricity to Karachi is the responsibility of K-Electric. He said that the ministry of water and power is supplying 650MW to Karachi despite difficulties and that the agreement has expired and no new arrangement has been made so far. He said that this is being done to alleviate the sufferings of the inhabitants of Karachi.

The federal minister said that the electricity situation is being monitored continuously except for system constraints. He said that the federal complaint cell is also operating round the clock for ratification of technical faults.

Earlier while talking to Secretary Water and Power Younus Dagha in Islamabad, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed that all steps must be taken on urgent basis to address the current load shedding situation in order to mitigate the sufferings of the people at the earliest.
