Monitoring Desk: The 8th Beijing Xiangshan Forum starts at Beijing International Convention Center.

More than 500 representatives from 67 countries and seven organizations are attending 8th Beijing Xiangshan Forum.

This year’s forum had themed: “Building a new type of security partnership of equality, mutual trust and win-win cooperation.”

Officials and scholars focused on issues including global security governance, terrorist threats and countermeasures, maritime security cooperation and UN peacekeeping.

Formerly known as the Xiangshan Forum, the event was first launched in 2006 and aims to promote exchanges and cooperation among defense authorities, armed forces, international organizations and scholars.

According to Chinese Media, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the eighth Beijing Xiangshan Forum, which opened in Beijing on Thursday.

“Peace, development and win-win cooperation remain the trend of today’s world, Xi said in the letter, adding the global governance system and international order are changing at a faster pace, and the future of people around the world is closely connected.

China will adopt an even more open approach when working with all nations to enhance development and security through cooperation and to build a community with a shared future for mankind, Xi said, adding the Chinese military will always remain a staunch force for world peace and stability”, President Xi said

500 representatives from 67 countries attending Forum

Major General Pi Mingyong, the forum’s secretary-general, told a press conference in Beijing that “there are more than 500 representatives from 74 countries, and international organizations have already confirmed attendance, including about 50 vice-ministerial and higher-level officials. This shows that the scale and level of the participation of foreign delegations have hit new heights.”

The topics to be discussed include “New ideas for and new approaches to international security governance,” “Terrorism threats and countermeasures,” “Reality and vision of maritime security cooperation,” and “Challenges to and cooperation of UN peacekeeping,” the forum’s website said. The topic “Artificial intelligence and evolution of modern warfare” will also be included.
