JHELUM: A fast-speeding passenger bus crashed with truck, killing at least eight passengers and injuring 16 others driver of the bus managed to escape.

The unfortunate accident took place near Deena on GT Road late yesterday when a Rawalpindi-bound bus was about to leave for Lahore; however, it went out of the driver’s control and ploughed into a truck parked by roadside.

The collision was so fierce that at least eight people died on the spot and 16 others sustained injuries. The bus driver disappeared from the accident site.

Passengers said the driver is a habitual criminal, who had to pay off challan for over-speeding; however, he did not learn his lesson.

The deceased include three women.

The Rescue team shifted the injured to District Headquarters Hospital Jhelum, where two are said to be in critical state.
