ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A 75-member contingent of Pakistan armed forces will participate in the Victory Day parade marking the 70th anniversary of China’s victory against Japan in World War II at the Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

“The contingent of Pakistan is one of the largest among seventeen countries which have been invited to participate in this parade,” the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release on Tuesday.

Besides Pakistan, other countries whose armed forces will march through the Tiananmen Square on September 3 includes China, Cambodia, Egypt, Mexico, Mongolia and Russia.

In a press conference in Beijing, the Deputy Chief of the Operations Department of the General Staff Headquarters of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Major General Qu Rui said that 12,000 Chinese troops, 500 vehicles and 200 aircraft will participate in the military parade.

Qu Rui said that the parade is intended to show off the advanced level of the Chinese army and to remember those who fought and died in the war.

Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Rashad Mahmood left for Beijing on Tuesday to witness the military parade.

President Mamnoon Hussain’s visit to Beijing is being undertaken on the invitation of his Chinese Counterpart Xi Jinping.

The president will remain in China for four days and will also hold meetings with the Chinese leadership to discuss and review important aspects of bilateral relation.
