ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: At least 13 persons including two children were killed while several injured when their houses collapsed after a massive earthquake jolted several parts of the country on Monday.

Location of epicenter was 36.441°N 70.717°E depth=212.5 km (132.1 mi). Depth of epicenter was 212 km deep inside earth.

The United States Geological Survey said that the earthquake was measured 7.7 at Richter scale while its epicenter was the Hindu Kush mountain region.

The areas in Pakistan which were hit by earthquake included Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Multan, and Azad Kashmir.

The tremors were also felt in several areas of India and Afghanistan.

The tremors were so strong that people came out of their homes and offices while the mobile services became suspended and houses were reportedly collapsed.

The reports of casualties also arrived as two persons lost their lives while five wounded when houses went down in different parts of Charsadda area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Two minor girls sustained serious injuries when their house collapsed in Jogan area of Abbottabad.

Four persons including two children died and five sustained wounds when houses went down in Bajaur agency. shakups The rescue sources said that 10 persons sustained injures when a wall of the Government Anbala School went down in Sargodha. Two persons were injured when a wall of old Tehsil Council building in Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa collapsed.

In Kasur, two persons including a child were injured when roof a house went down in Dostpura village.

Likewise, 20 persons were injured when their houses fell down due to the strong earthquake in Malakand division.

The houses and building also reportedly collapsed in Balakot area of Kashmir.

In addition, due to the earthquake a massive landslide hit the Hunza river which caused the flow of water in the river.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed all federal civil, military and provincial agencies to declare immediate alert and mobilize all resources to ensure security of citizens.

All agencies have been directed to move out with their resources to find out the welfare of the country. No stone should be left unturned to provide all kinds of assistance.

COAS directs army to help earthquake-affected people

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif also directed army to reach out where required to help affected people without waiting for orders, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
