World40 killed as bus collides with truck in France

PARIS, France: A bus and a truck collided with each other in France’s southwestern city of Bordeaus on Friday, killing at least 40 people mostly elder persons.

The French police officials said that the incident occurred near the town of Puisseguin where the two drivers lost control of their vehicles which eventually ended in a collision.

The officials said that the accident also caused injuries to eight French nationals, adding that both the vehicles caught fire after the collision.

A total of 49 pensioners were reportedly boarding the bus which was traveling to Béarn province from the town of Petit-Palais-et-Cornemps.

“The French government has fully mobilized after this terrible tragedy,” the French President Francois Hollande wrote in a twitter message.

It is being described as the worst road accident in France for over three decades. In 1982, 53 people including 44 children were killed when an accident took place in the French eastern town of Beaune.
