PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Unfortunately, 56 people lost their lives while 194 sustained injuries in an explosion which took place in the famous Qissa Khwani Bazaar of Peshawar on Friday.

The powerful blast went off at a fully packed Kocha Risaldar Shia mosque when people were offering Friday prayers in congregation.

The dead bodies and injured persons were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

Talking to media, the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Ijaz Ahsan confirmed that it was suicide blast, adding that there was no threat alert.

The CCPO said that according to initial reports, two attackers tried to enter the mosque and fired at the policemen standing guard.

As a result, one policeman was martyred while the other was critically injured, the CCPO said.

Rescue Officials told that Irshad Khalili, the Imam of the Jamia Mosque, also embraced martyrdom in the Peshawar blast.
