KARACHI: At least 24 more persons were arrested as police and the Rangers continued their house-to-house search operation in the Lyari area of Karachi, officials said on Thursday.

Officials said that a police contingent, on a tip-off regarding the presence of criminals, conducted an operation in the Lyari area of Sheedi Village and apprehended eight people. Moreover, eight motorcycles were also seized during the operation.

Meantime, police personnel faced gun-attacks from the criminals and had to escape to safety. Children also pelted them with stones on Lyari’s streets.

Armed with modern firearms, over 200 Rangers personnel reached in the area over tip-offs and took Sango Lane in their cordon. They conducted house-to-house search operation in the area, ensuing haphazard gunfights. However, only 14 miscreants were captured in the long run and shifted to some undisclosed location.

To cap it all, no vital target killer or gang-war criminal was arrested in the operation.
