20 killed in Turkish coal mine blast

ANKARA: An explosion occurred in a coal mine in the western Turkish province of Manisa that left at least 20 miners killed and some 200-300 trapped, foreign media reported on Tuesday.

“Twenty workers were killed and 30 were wounded in the accident. They died of choking and burns,” a member of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Muzaffer Yurttas.

The media reports said that between 200-580 miners were working in the mine at the time of the explosion which was caused by an electrical fault.
