Islamabad, Pakistan: The 180th Corps Commanders’ Conference was held at General Headquarters today, said an official release of Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan Army.

General Raheel Sharif Chief of Army Staff (COAS) chaired the Conference. The forum dwelt at length on various professional matters. The participants also under took a comprehensive review of operational preparedness, prevalent internal and external security situation of the country including progress of ongoing operation Zarb-e- Azb.

It may be mentioned that Pakistan is fighting a war in its tribal areas against terrorists that are living in Afghanistan. Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has killed around 50,000 Pakistanis including over 5,ooo soldiers of Pakistan Army. This is a a joint military offensive being conducted by Pakistan Armed Forces against various militant groups, including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Jundallah, al-Qaeda, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) and the Haqqani network.

The operation was launched by the Pakistan Armed Forces on 15 June 2014 in North Waziristan (part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas along the Afghan border) as a renewed effort against militancy in the wake of the 8 June attack on Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, for which the TTP and the IMU claimed responsibility.[

Part of the ongoing war in North-West Pakistan, up to 30,000 Pakistani soldiers are involved in Zarb-e-Azb, described as a “comprehensive operation” to flush out all foreign and local militants hiding in North Waziristan.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
