PESHAWAR, Pakistan: At least 23 people were killed while further 29 sustained injuries in a suicide blast which ripped through a mosque in Anbar Tehsil of Mohmand Agency on Friday.

Political administration sources said that the blast took place in Pai Khan area of Anbar Tehsil when a number of people were gathered in the mosque to offer Friday prayers.

The sources further said that it was a suicide blast which caused multiple casualties in Mohmand agency along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Meanwhile, rescue operations had begun and injured were being shifted to hospitals in Bajaur Agency, Peshawar and Charsadda for medical treatment.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan strongly condemned the blast in Mohmand Agency.

In their separate messages, they prayed to Almighty Allah to bless the departed souls with eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable losses.

The prime minister said that the cowardly attacks by terrorists cannot shatter the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country. He directed the concerned for extending all possible assistance to the injured and families of the victims.
