Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the final list of candidates taking part in the May 11 polls.  A total of 4671 candidates are contesting for 272 general seats of the National Assembly while 10958 are competing for 577 seats of provincial assemblies.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 517 candidates are contesting for 35 general seats of the NA while 1438 aspirants will run for 99 provincial assembly seats. In Fata, 339 candidates are running for 12 general seats of the National Assembly in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). As many as 77 candidates will compete for two general seats of the National Assembly in Islamabad.

In Punjab, 5758 contestants will run for 148 National Assembly seats while 5758 will compete on 297 provincial assembly seats. In Sindh, 1087 candidates will run for 61 NA seats while 2810 contestants will be running for 130 provincial assembly seats. As many as 284 candidates will be in the election race for the 14 seats of the National Assembly in Balochistan while 953 will contest for 51 seats of the provincial assembly seats.

Nomination papers of 258 female candidates have been accepted for the 60 reserved seats for women. The ECP has accepted 123 nomination papers for 35 reserved seats for women in Punjab, 58 in Sindh for 14 seats, 45 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for 8 seats and 32 in Balochistan for 3 reserved seats.

Nomination papers of 71 candidates have been accepted for 10 reserved seats for minorities in the National Assembly.

Chief of the Air Staff expressed his gratitude for the honour of receiving the Bahrain Medal - First Class. On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
