134 Pakistani fishermen currently imprisoned in India, Senate informed

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Senate was informed on Tuesday that presently there are 134 Pakistani fishermen who are imprisoned in India.

In reply to a question during the question hour in the House, the Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan said that arrest of the fishermen is a humanitarian issue and remains high on the priority list of the federal government.

The minister pointed out that the issue is constantly raised with India for release and repatriation of the fishermen.

Khurram Dastgir said that 68 fishermen were released by India during last year and 17 in first four months of 2015.

Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate polio appreciated

The Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar informed the House that International agencies monitoring polio have appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate polio in the country.

The minister said that main issue was the non-accessibility to certain areas but after launching of the military operation Zarb-e-Azb and Karachi operation, they have gained accessibility in areas like North Waziristan, South Waziristan and Kadap, Karachi.

Saira Afzal said that now they are receiving positive results of vaccinations drives.
