GENEVA, Switzerland: Pakistan has sought intervention of United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights to protect the right to life of Kashmiri people, end impunity of Indian Occupation forces and undertake an impartial inquiry on fire on peaceful protestors.

In his address to a gathering to express solidarity with the Kashmiris, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to United Nations in Geneva Ambassador Tehmina Janjua said that letter of Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has been handed over to the High Commissioner on Human Rights.

Ambassador Janjua said the letter was a formal demarche urging the High Commissioner to investigate the human rights violations.

It also calls upon India to implement its international obligations, both human rights and those under UN Security Council resolution relating to Jammu and Kashmir.

She said Pakistan has also sought intervention of International Committee of Red Cross towards the humanitarian issue of provision of medical care and end to attacks against ambulances and hospitals by Indian security forces in the Occupied Kashmir.

Addressing a gathering to mark the Black Day to condemn brutal Indian atrocities against innocent Kashmiri people, she condemned the brutalities being inflicted by the Indian Occupation Forces on the innocent Kashmiri people, especially the young whose eyes and upper torsos were being deliberately targeted.

Ambassador Janjua said the weapons used by the Indian security forces have blinded and caused eye injuries to more than 70 Kashmiri youth and children as well as peaceful demonstrators.

The current violence perpetrated by the Indian security forces had resulted in more than 50 casualties and around 3500 injured, she told the gathering to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people of Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Ambassador Janjua passionately took up the case of the fulfillment of the right to self-determination of the people of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

She said in the wake of the current indigenous response to the repressive Indian occupation policies, it has become essential for the international community to urgently end the brutalities being meted out to the Kashmiri people and to seriously address this long-standing issue.

The Permanent Representative also urged the President of the ICRC to intervene to address the humanitarian aspects of the situation especially the provision of medical care to the injured and end attacks against ambulances and hospitals.

The participants expressed unflinching support for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. They regretted the non- implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. They were of the view that non-implementation had brought unending miseries to the Kashmiri people.

They expressed the firm belief that only, a free, fair and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices will satisfy the genuine aspirations for realization of the right to self- determination of the Kashmiris.

The participants also offered prayers for the Kashmiri martyrs and those injured.
