ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Sweden has said that it is keen to further strengthen and broaden its relations with Pakistan in all spheres.

In a meeting with the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi in Islamabad on Wednesday, a Swedish delegation affirmed that Sweden wants its ties with Pakistan to be further strengthened and broadened.

The delegation with led by former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Sweden Carl Bildt and also accompanied by Director General for Political Affairs of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs Anna-Karin Eneström.

The two sides also discussed cooperation in international forums on issues of regional and international importance.

During talks, the former Swedish prime minister appreciated Pakistan’s success in the campaign against terrorism and acknowledged Pakistan’s positive strides in all fields including the economy and law and order.

While appreciating the cordial and friendly relations between Pakistan and Sweden, Tariq Fatemi underscored the need for increased engagement between the two countries in all areas, particularly economic, education and culture.

The special assistant also briefed the Swedish delegation on Pakistan’s comprehensive strategy (National Action Plan and operation Zarb-e-Azb) to effectively deal with the menace of terrorism and extremism.
