MUMBAI, India: At least 20 Indian solders including two officers were killed when a fire broke out at a military ammunition depot in India’s western Maharashtra state on Tuesday.
The Indian media reports said that several soldiers belonging to Defence Security Corp (DSC) also received injuries when the Central Ammunition Depot in Pulgaon City of Wardha District in Maharashtra caught fire early Tuesday.
The area was immediately cordoned off and thousands of families were evacuated from nearby towns and villages as well.
The reports said that Central Ammunition Depot in Pulgaon is one of India’s biggest ammunition depots, and recently it got an award for using solar energy for disposing expired ammunition.
