LAHORE, Pakistan: The Wicket Keeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed has been named as Pakistan T20 Captain, a few days after Shahid Afridi announced to relinquish his role as the Captain.

The appointment of 28-year-old Sarfraz Ahmed as Pakistan T20 team Captain was made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday.

Earlier Shahid Afridi announced to step down as the Captain following the early exit of Pakistan team from the ICC World T20 2016. However, the all-rounder maintained that he intended to continue to play for Pakistan and not retiring.

“I spoke to Sarfraz this morning and conveyed to him that he was our natural choice for this position. His appointment is open-ended. I wish him good luck in his new role,” the Chairman PCB Shehryar Khan said while commenting on Sarfraz’s appointment.

The Pakistan Head Coach Waqar Younis also resigned from his position on Monday while the PCB dissolved the Selection Committee. The PCB also appointed a two-member Committee comprising Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja for assistance in appointing a new head coach.
