RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) with Pakistan Army and Rangers continue to carry out operations against suspected terrorists across the Punjab province in the aftermatch of Sunday’s deadly blast in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal park, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a series of tweets, the Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif presided over a high level meeting at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday to review the progress of operation in Punjab to nab terrorists in the aftermath of Lahore blast.

During the meeting, it was informed that the LEAs accompanied with Pakistan Army and Rangers had conducted five operations in Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan since last night. It was informed that the operation still continued with more leading coming in.

The meeting was further informed that a number of suspect terrorists and facilitators had been arrested in these operations as well as huge cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered.

On Sunday evening, a suicide bomber denoted his explosives in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park located in Iqbal Town Lahore which left more than 70 innocent people dead and over 300 injured.

The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Jamaatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the Lahore blast while the suicide bomber, according to investigators, was a resident of Muzaffargarh.

Separately, a high level meeting on security situation was also underway in Lahore on Monday with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair.

The meeting, attended amongst others by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, discussed the overall security and law and order situation in the wake of Lahore tragedy.
