ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi Friday said that Pakistan attached highest importance to its relations with Sri Lanka.

He was talking to the newly arrived High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Major Gen (retd) Jayanath Lokuketagodage, who paid a courtesy call on him here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The special assistant welcomed Ambassador Lokuketagodage to Pakistan and said the recent leadership-level interactions between the two sides had further strengthened relations between the two sides. He said it also helped identify new areas of bilateral cooperation.

Tariq Fatemi also briefed the Sri Lankan High Commissioner regarding the achievements of the government in the field of counter-terrorism, economy and good governance.

Ambassador Lokuketagodage thanked the Special Assistant for the warm welcome accorded to him in Pakistan and expressed his resolve to continue working closely with the Government of Pakistan to retain the positive trajectory of relations between the two countries.
