ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Interior Ministry has approved the deployment of 10,000 army personnel in sensitive areas all over the country for Muharram security, reports said on Saturday.
The month of Muharram-ul-Haram which marks the beginning of new Islamic year has begun and Ashura (10th Muharram) will be observed on October 24 across Pakistan.
In order to ensure peaceful law and order situation across the country during Muharram, the interior ministry has decided that 10,000 army personnel will be deployed in sensitive areas across the country.
However, the Sindh government has opposed the deployment of army personnel in the province during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Talking to newsmen in Karachi on Friday, the Sindh Minister for Information and Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said there was no need to call out army troops in the province to maintain law and order during Muharram.
The provincial minister said that the civilian government, police and Rangers have already undertaken adequate security measures for the purpose.
In the wake of Muharram, all the provincial governments are formulating comprehensive security plans and taking extraordinary measures to maintain the law and order situation and foil the nefarious designs of anti-nation elements.
The governments have decided to deploy security personnel and install CCTV cameras among other security measures to avoid any untoward situation while the processions and religious gatherings are being held in their respective jurisdictions.
