Fazl criticizes int’l community’s discriminatory attitude towards Kashmir


ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chairman Kashmir Committee Maulana Fazlur Rehman has criticized the international community for its discriminatory attitude towards the Kashmir dispute.

In his address at a function in Islamabad on Sunday in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, Fazl regretted the international community has adopted a callous attitude on the issue of Kashmir.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who also leads the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), said that the international community should play its role to help resolve this issue.

The JUI-F leader said that Kashmir issue should be resolved according to the wishes of Kashmiris in line with the UN Security Council resolutions.

Fazl said that the UN Security Council’s resolutions on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, East Timor and Sudan were implemented by the international community but the UN resolutions on Kashmir are still pending.

In addition, he said that India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a sectarian party which is dividing Kashmir on Hindu-Muslim basis.

The JUI-F leader urged the government to keep a close eye on rapidly unfolding circumstances and formulate an effective foreign policy to counter new challenges posed by India.

Kashmir resolution imperative for durable peace in South Asia: Info minister

In his address on the occasion, the federal information minister Pervaiz Rasheed said that resolution of Kashmir issue is imperative for durable peace in the South Asia.

The information minister said that Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to Kashmiris in their just struggle for right to self-determination.

Rasheed urged India to fulfil Jawaharlal Nehru’s promise of plebiscite in Kashmir to decide their future themselves.

Moreover, he said that India cannot become member of UN Security Council until it fulfils its pledges made in the UN resolutions.
