Monitoring Desk: State Run News Agency of Azerbaijan AZERTAC and Cuban Press Latina Agency have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on Saturday.

According to AZERTAC News Agency, the agreement was signed by Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) Aslan Aslanov and editor-in-chief of Prensa Latina News Agency Orlando Oramos. The Memorandum envisages the exchange of information and experience between the two agencies.

Agencies will mutually spread news from Azerbaijan and Cuba in English and Spanish.

Speaking at a meeting held at AZERTAC, Aslan Aslanov underlined that this agreement would play a role in spreading objective information about friendly countries Azerbaijan and Cuba and bringing the two nations together.

Prensa Latina News Agency was founded in 1959. As the country`s main source of news, it spreads news in five languages – Spanish, English, Russian, Italian and Portuguese. The agency has bureaus in 30 countries.

AZERTAC, founded by the Government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on March 1, 1920, functioned under various names during the Soviet period.

The Agency restored its historical name after Azerbaijan regained state independence. From March 3, 1995 to January 17, 2000, the agency bore the name “State Telegraph Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers”, and then was renamed “Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency”.

Along with the official government information, AZERTAC wires in Azerbaijani, English, Russian, French, German, Arabic and Chinese languages.

Cooperation between AZERTAC and Prensa Latina will give impetus to the spread of news about Azerbaijani realities to Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America.

Orlando Oramos Leon noted that Prensa Latina is interested in close cooperation with AZERTAC, adding that they have been waiting for the signing of this memorandum for a long time. The editor-in-chief underlined that cooperation will pave the way for the exchange of reliable news about the two countries.

AZERTAC is one of the biggest news agency of Europe having a great influence over Caspian Sea, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Europe, Africa, South Asia and as far as South East Asia through its partner news agencies.
