Selfies are Deadlier than Sharks

EntertainmentSelfies are Deadlier than Sharks

Humans thrive on vanity. Most people just love talking about themselves and jump at the first chance they get to show off. Up to a certain limit these things are tolerable but when this need to be so vane turns lethal, we surely need to rethink our priorities. In a report published by Condé Nast Traveler it was revealed that despite the unusual amount of horrendous shark attacks reported this summer, more people have died due to selfies than sharks.

Reportedly about 8 people died in various shark attacks over the world this year while others barely managed to survive with lost limbs. However all of this falls short in comparison to the countless number of people who got hurt and the 12 unfortunate souls who lost their lives while trying to take a selfie just in 2015. These deaths resulted from various injuries caused when people either just stopped paying attention to take their own picture or when they decided to go the extra mile just for the sake of looking cool.

The whole thing may seem like a joke to most of our readers but selfie injuries are rapidly becoming a huge threat to the well being of people. Things have gotten so worse that the Russian Government is currently running PSA’s to warn youngsters to refrain from taking selfies near trains, on rooftops or in the presence of dangerous rooftops. Even Disney theme parks and Comic Con conventions have also recently started to ban selfie sticks, deeming them a public safety hazard. Now, we know that most of these injuries and deaths could have been avoided by exercising simply common sense but I guess the quote, “Vanity can easily overtake wisdom. It usually overtakes common sense” from Julian Casablancas manages to describe the whole thing quite adequately.
