ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, Lok Virsa and Directorate of Culture Balochistan is holding auditions for an open competition of Balochi Music instrument – Saroz for amateurs and professionals to show their love and dedication to the traditional culture.
The auditions for the competition are continued at Quetta and Gawadar while a large number of amateur musicians are participating in the auditions.
The program “Revival of Saroz” is planned to revive the traditional Balochi-Pashtun string instrument of Saroz by the College of Youth Activism and Development (CYAAD) and Small Grant Ambassador Fund Program (SGAFP) in collaboration with Lok Virsa.
This joint venture “Balochistan Cultural Preservation and Revitalization Project” is conceived by CYAAD and supported by SGAFP to preserve Saroz through training of young people in two districts of Balochistan.
The programme aims to revitalize folk music and people’s confidence on its significance as metaphor of peace, tolerance and social harmony.
This would pay tribute to the bolstering but unheard folk musicians of Balochistan who have lit this candle for centuries despite countless odds and miseries, said an official of Lok Virsa.
