ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Tribunal consisting of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday allowed the former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan and Ayesha Gulalai to contest the general elections 2018 from NA-53 Islamabad-II.
On June 19, the Returning Officer (RO) of NA-53 Islamabad had rejected their nomination papers. Eventually they filed appeals in the election tribunal against rejection of their nomination papers by the RO.
The tribunal today allowed them contest elections from the Constituency.
Later talking to media persons, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the people have the right and not the RO to reject a Candidate.
Khaqan Abbasi said that i have been elected from my Constituency for eight times. He said that now the people of the Constituency will have to decide.
The former prime minister said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will make the government.
NA-53 Islamabad-II is one of the major political battle fields in 2018 general elections as heavy weights Candidates including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan will be face to face in the Constituency on July 25.
