Elections 2018RO rejects Imran Khan’s nomination papers for NA-53 Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Returning Officer (RO) has rejected the nomination papers filed by the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan for NA-53 Islamabad-II, and now the matter will be taken to the appellate tribunal.

The RO rejected objections raised by the former Chief Justice Iftikhar Choudary and Ayesha Gulalai on Imran Khan’s nomination papers; however the required affidavit was not completed.

The nomination papers of the former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and Ayesha Gulalai filed for NA-53 were also rejected by the RO.

Earlier the nomination papers of Imran Khan for NA-131 Lahore-XI, NA-243 Karachi East-II and NA-35 Bannu were accepted.

The RO of NA-131 Lahore rejected all objections raised by the former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry against Imran Khan.

Iftikhar Chaudhry had pleaded in his petition that Imran Khan’s nomination papers should be rejected because he did not disclose that he had a daughter as a result of his relations with Sita White.

The verdicts on objections raised against Imran Khan in NA-243 Karachi East-II will also be announced shortly.

Separately, the nomination papers of the Co-Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari filed for NA-213 Shaheed Benazirabad-I has also been approved.

Two persons had objected over not mentioning worth of Zardari’s assets in his nomination papers correctly; however, the RO brushed aside the objections.

The nomination papers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Ahsan Iqbal and PTI’s Abrar-ul-Haq for NA-78 Narowal-II, and PML-N’s leader Nisar Cheema and PTI’s Muhammad Ahmad Chatha for NA-79 Gujranwala-I have also been accepted.
