Elections 2018ECP has no pressure from any institution: Secretary

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Babar Yaqoob on Saturday said they had no pressure from any institution, adding all political parties were being provided equal opportunities.

While briefing media in Islamabad, the Secretary ECP said all institutions were cooperating with the Election Commission in conducting elections 2018 in a free, fair and transparent manner.

Babar Yaqoob said work on printing and dispatch of ballot papers had been completed. He said all relevant election material had been dispatched to the Returning Officers (ROs).

The Secretary ECP said postal ballots would be thoroughly scrutinized after the election in every Constituency to stop their misuse.

The Secretary said 800,000 security personnel deployed for security of polling stations would completely follow the code of conduct. He said security forces comprising 450,000 police personnel and 350,000 army people would provide security to the voters and polling staff for smooth conduct of elections.

In addition, he said Presiding Officers (POs) at the polling stations would be fully in charge, and police and military personnel would work under them.

Babar Yaqoob said ECP was thankful to the Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and the Chief Justices of all four High Courts to allow their judges to work as ROs despite their own work load.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
