EducationStudents block 9th Avenue; protest for Online Examination

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The students resorted to a protest at Agha Shahi Avenue (9th Avenue) in Islamabad on Monday, demanding the Online Examination amid the COVID-19 resurgence.

Sources said that students of Rawalpindi’s Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University and the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in Islamabad staged a protest at Agha Shahi Avenue on Monday, and blocked the road halting the flow of traffic.

Meanwhile, the Metro Bus Service passing through the 9th Avenue was also suspended amid the protest.

The protesting students were of the view that since the government has announced Online Classis amid the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic and students are exempted from appearing in Educational Institutions; therefore, their exams must also be taken Online.

Sources said that Murree Road near the Arid Agriculture University is also closed for traffic due to the protest.

It’s worth noting that the government has allowed all Educational Institutions throughout the Country to conduct Online Classes from January 11; however, the physical appearance of students of grade 1-8 and the University Classes will resume from February 1, 2021.

The Educational Institutions from grade 9 to 12 reopened today (Monday) across the Country.

On January 15, while announcing the decision of phase-wise re-opening of Educational Institutions in the Country, the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood categorically said that in 2021, no student will be promoted to the next Class without examination.
