LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Friday that the government had taken revolutionary steps for promotion of education in the province.

“A comprehensive programme is being implemented for achieving target of 100% enrolment in schools by 2018,” he said while presiding over a meeting to review progress on educational projects in the province.

Shahbaz Sharif said special attention was being paid to enhance literacy rate and improve standard of education.

“Progress and prosperity will be attained by imparting the youth with latest knowledge and skills,” he added.

The Chief Minister said basic facilities had been provided in 52,000 schools at the cost of Rs 140 billion, while Rs 16 billion had been spent on reconstruction of school buildings.

With the government’s steps, he said that significant improvement was seen in attendance of teachers and children in schools.

Shahbaz Sharif said owing to educational programmes of the Punjab government no child would remain uneducated.

The Punjab Chief Minister informed the meeting that work on setting up of modern laboratories and additional rooms in schools was under way at a fast pace.
