EducationQuaid-e-Azam University’s 202 acres land grabbed by mafia: Vice Chancellor

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Vice Chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Dr Javed Ashraf Tuesday said that a powerful mafia had encroached a total 202 acres land of the university according to the record and documents.

While addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said that the university had possession of a total 1,507 acres of land currently, out of the total 1709 acres allocated by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

He said 56 kanals of land had been grabbed by ex-chairman Senate Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and the civic body was unable to get QAU’s encroached land free from illegal occupants.

Javed Ashraf said it was the responsibility of CDA to hand-over the possession of the allotted land to QAU management, which was being delayed for the last 26 years.

Contrary to fulfilling its responsibility, he said, the CDA had been suggesting the QAU management to get the encroached land vacated at its own.

The VC said locals and mafia operating in adjacent villages were involved in land grabbing, which is continuing unchecked by the district administration and CDA.

Dr Javed Ashraf made it clear that the university premises was not secure as per the security point of view because QAU had lacking the boundary wall, which is not being allowed by the CDA.

He said despite alerts, being issued by the security departments from time to time, the QAU was vulnerable to any threat.

He said the university had its own 130 security guards which were not sufficient in the prevailing security scenario and without having the boundary wall.

However, the police and rangers kept patrolling in the varsity jurisdiction when needed, the VC added.

“QAU will approach the court to vacate its encroached land,” he remarked.
