ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Punjab Finance Ministry has approved the plan to upgrade teachers of all categories in the province.

After giving its consent, the provincial finance ministry sent the teachers’ upgradation summary to the Ministry of Education, and which is now being forwarded to the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) for issuing the notification.

As per the summary, all Primary School Teachers (PSTs) in Punjab will be upgraded from grade 9 to grade 14 while all Elementary School Teachers (ESTs) will be upgraded from grade 14 to grade 15 & grade 16.

However, the Punjab Finance Ministry rejected the suggestion of upgrading Secondary School Teachers (SSTs) whom only two advance increments will be granted.

The teachers’ upgradation notification will be issued on Salam Teachers Day (October 5), and it will be applicable with effect from January 1, 2018, according to the Daily Express.

Meanwhile, the daily also cited sources as saying that the directives have been issued to complete the renovation work in 200 schools of the Federal Capital by next month (October 2017).

Sources said that under the Prime Minister’s Education Reforms Programme which is being supervised by Maryam Nawaz, renovation work which includes whitewashing, repairing of boundary walls, repairing wiring, provision of fans, and construction of additional classrooms and admin blocks etc is underway in 200 schools of Islamabad.
