LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab School Education Department (PSED) has imposed a ban on the use of plastic shopping bags in all government schools across the province.

In a letter dispatched to headmasters of all government schools in Punjab, the PSED apprised them on the ban imposed on the use of shopping bags and plastic bags in schools.

It has been stated in the letter that students in all government educational institutions won’t be allowed to bring their luggage in plastic bags, whereas plastic bags would also remain banned in canteen or cafeteria.

In the letter, directives were issued to place banners outside the school buildings to discourage the use of plastic shopping bags.

Furthermore, it was also stated in the letter that teachers would be bound to deliver lectures on friendly environment and growing environmental hazards caused by plastic bags.

The directives were also issued to organize pictorial and speech competitions, and awareness drive against the use of plastic bags.

It is worth noting that the government has initiated the process to ban the use of plastic shopping bags from Islamabad under the Clean and Green Pakistan Campaign.
