ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Country would have its first National Training Centre for Literacy and Non-Formal Education (NFE) soon, the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Baligh-Ur-Rehman said on Friday.

“We are determined to make National Training Centre for Literacy and NFE a finest Centre,” the minister said while addressing as Chief Guest symposium on “Literacy in Pakistan: Challenges of Digital World” jointly organized by National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Islamabad.

The minister noted education was absolutely important for any nation to move forward and flourish.

Baligh-Ur-Rehman said that promotion of literacy in Pakistan was the priority of the government as presently they had become able to allocate more budget for education sector.

The minister further noted there was great improvement regarding reduction in out of schools children in Pakistan. He said their net enrolment had gone up from 68 percent to 78 percent.

The education minister said provincial governments were also giving much more attention to education.

Moreover, he said Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) stood number one regarding improvement in reduction of out of schools children as there was 55 percent improvement regarding reduction in out of school children, 23 percent in Punjab, 9 percent in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while improvement regarding reduction in out of schools children in Sindh was less.

“It is our national duty to promote education as any single child if left without education anywhere will be a national loss,” the minister said.

The minister said Pakistan was very active for creating awareness regarding sustainable development goals (SDGs).

“We will achieve SDGs target by 2030,” he said.

The minister reaffirmed his support to NCHD for the cause of education and literacy in Pakistan.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
