EducationNo increase in school fee without approval: Spokesman PEIRA

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Spokesman of the Pakistan Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) Qaiser Majeed Malik on Tuesday said that there will be no increase in fee at private institution without approval of the concerned authorities.

Talking to the state-run news agency, he said that Chairman PEIRA will hold a meeting soon with the members of the private schools association to decide the increment in fee.

Private schools of the federal capital have decided to raise annual fees of their students.

Secretary Information Private Schools Association Islamabad (PSAI) Abdul Waheed Khan told the news agency that hike in fees of the students at private educational institutions was necessary to meet needs.

He said that PEIRA has raised the registration fees of the private schools from 20,000 to 50,000 annually so they will have to raise the fees to bear expenses.

He demanded of the government that the federal private schools should be controlled by Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) rather than Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA).

Private schools were paying a substantial amount to PEIRA after every two years and now that amount has been raised by another 50 percent which would now be paid every year, which is total injustice, he said.

Only few schools can afford these hefty charges by PEIRA as for most of the schools it is difficult to pay them, he added.

He said that house owners had been raising rent by 10 percent every year which pushes the schools to increase fees of students to meet additional costs.
