ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The ongoing process of madressa reforms would be finalised within three months, a top official of the Ministry of Education said here Saturday.

A total of two committees have been constituted to finalize the details of madressa reforms aiming to bring seminary students at par with other students, Director General Education Professor Rafique Tahir said Saturday.

One committee, headed by Chairman Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, has been assigned to finalise reforms’ details within 10 days.

The members of committee included Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, Mufti Hanif Jalandhri and Deputy Secretary Education.

The committee has been assigned to suggest measures for equalising the certificates of seminaries to matric, FA, FSc.

The second committee is headed by Executive Director Higher Education Commission (HEC). Director General Accredation HEC, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman and Muhammad Hanif Jalandhri are among the members.

It is being contemplated that English, Mathematics and some other optional subjects should be included in the curricula of seminaries.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has already announced 20 point National Action Plan (NAP) after creating a national consensus to eliminate the menace of extremism and terrorism from the country.

Official sources told APP that it is important to reform the madressa education system to bring them into mainstream education system in the country because it’s important to secure the future of madrassa students and get madrassa system in the mainstream for the betterment of education in Pakistan.

Legal uniformity of madrassa system with the consensus of federal government, wafaq ul madaris, and provinces was necessary to achieve this objective.

The sources said that the registration of madaris with the Madressa Boards, deliberation upon curriculum, exam system, syllabus, grading system, teachers’ qualification, textbooks and monitoring of regular education in madaris was also necessary in this regard.
