LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in his message on ‘International Literacy Day’ on Friday underlined the importance of education, saying that no nation can develop without it.
The ‘International Literacy Day’ is annually observed across the World including in Pakistan on September 8 under the aegis of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), with an aim to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.
This year, ‘International Literacy Day’ is being observed with the theme ‘Literacy in a Digital World’.
In his message on ‘International Literacy Day’, Shahbaz Sharif said that education unlocks the limits of human consciousness.
The Punjab Chief Minister said that without education a human being cannot have economic and social development. He said that a literate person can shape up the role of an entire world.
Shahbaz Sharif further said that the Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps for the promotion of education. He said that special focus is being paid in the province on the betterment of educational standards.
The UNESCO promotes the ‘International Literacy Day’ to underline the significance of literacy in the development and advancement of all nations globally.
Meanwhile, on the eve of the day, a global event is being organized today at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris. Likewise, the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes awards ceremony is taking place to recognize and reward excellent literacy practices from around the world.
