EducationIllegal transfers: Teachers’ shortage crises looms in Punjab govt colleges

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Following the transfers of teachers in Punjab government colleges on the recommendations of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) ministers and MNAs, teachers’ shortage crises has surfaced in the provincial educational institutions.

Sources said that Punjab government colleges are facing the shortage of teachers and staff after ministers and ruling party’s lawmakers recommended teachers’ transfer in the province in defiance of SNE rules.

In rural areas, the process of transfers of teachers and staff continues without seeking a permission from the local principal even if there is already a shortage of teachers and other staff.

Sources were cited as saying by Daily Nai Baat that in the past, in order to fill the vacant posts of regular teachers and professors, College Teaching Interns (CTIs) used to be recruited but this year, CTIs have not been recruited yet.

They said that the admission of first year has been completed in government colleges; however thousands of students find no teacher in educational institutions. They said that a conspiracy is being hatched to decimate the future of thousands of students.

Sources told that in last five years, the recruitments of class IV employees and clerical staff could not take place while most of staff members in Government College For Women Gujar Khan, Government College Gujar Khan, Government College Daultala, Government College Murree, Government College Kotli, Government College Chakri, Government College Chak Beli, and Government College Siyal have been transferred to colleges of their likings on the recommendations of PML-N’s ministers and MNAs.

In addition, sources cautioned that the shortage of teachers may cause the deterioration of quality of result and eventually future of thousands of students may be jeopardized.
