EducationHigh tuition fees of private schools irks parents in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Parents have expressed annoyance over the abrupt raise in the tuition fees of various private educational institutions in federal capital in the pretext of security, funds and others facilities.

During a survey, it was observed that most private schools charges were too high this year as compared to the previous years.

The parents demanded of the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) to take notice and conduct proper survey to check the quality of services being provided by these schools.

Imtiaz Khan, a resident of Sector G-8 said that PEIRA should develop a mechanism to control increasing the tuition fee and other charges.

He said that the private educational institutions were charging high fee which was unjustified and even unaffordable for most of the people.

Syed Zahid Majeed, a resident of G-11 said that most of the schools were charging fee according to their own will and demanded that PEIRA should take stern action against the private educational institutions violating its rules.

Commenting on the issue, Chairman PEIRA Hasanat Qureshi said that the authority was planning to conduct a survey for determining the private schools operating on their own. He said that a strict action would be taken against non-registered schools.

As many as 1,200 private schools have been registered with PEIRA in federal capital so far.

Chairman Private Schools Network (PSN) Afzal Babar said that the population of capital city was increasing day by day and it would be difficult for the government to create enough educational facilities for the commoners of Islamabad without private partnership as private schools were providing quality education in reasonable charges.

He criticized Fee Determination Rules 2016, adding that the private schools owners are unable to implement the conditions of the PEIRA.
