GILGIT, Pakistan: The Director General Academic Division Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr Muhammad Raza Chohan on Thursday said two years BA/BSc programme was being abolished from 2018 which was to be replaced by BS four years programme based on semesters system as per the policy of the Commission to prepare quality manpower for future challenges.

While addressing the five days national seminar being held at Karakorum International University in Gilgit, the director general underscored the need for gradual replacement of the ongoing conventional BA/BSc programme with four years BS semester system to prepare students with modern days challenges besides adaptation of new education system.

The workshop on semesters system continued at Karakoram International University (KIU) on the third day where speakers highlighted importance of BS four years education programme.

The seminar was organized in collaboration of Quality Enhancement Cell KIU and Academic Division of HEC Islamabad.

Dr Muhammad Raza Chohan said as per the policy of the Commission, two years BA/BSc programme was being abolished from 2018 which was to be replaced by BS four years programme based on semesters system.

The Controller examination Bahuddin Zakria University Multan Dr Muhammad Umar Chaudhry highlighted national qualification framework, under-graduation and graduate programs for different scheme of studies, credit and rules and regulations of the semesters system.

The Chairman HEC Quality Enhancement Cell and the Chairman Education Department Sargodha University gave special lectures on the course filling and assessment system.

The ceremony was attended by Secretary Education Gilgit Baltistan Haji Sanaullah, DG HEC Academic Division Muhammad Raza Chohan, Acting VC KIU Dr Professor Khalil Ahmed, Register KIU Dr Abdul Hameed Lon and Dean Dr Muhammad Ramzan, Controller Examination Muhammad Arif, the Director QEC, Mir Tazeem Akhtar, Director Colleges Manzoor Karim and Principles of various colleges of the Gilgit Baltistan.

In his address, the Secretary said fast track changes were being witnessed in the education sector and resting great responsibilities on the teachers.

The Secretary said we needed to work hard and take these responsibilities with more dedication and seriousness to meet the desired goals. He said the government was well aware of the problems being faced by the university administration regarding implementing elimination of two years BA/BSc program and starting of BS four years programme at the college level.

The Secretary hoped that HEC would guide us in this regard as it was a national policy and we have to implement it. Therefore, he added, this workshop would be instrumental in preparation of recommendations in this regard.

The acting Vice Chancellor KIU Professor Dr Khalil said HEC off and on conducted training workshops, seminars and conferences to make aware academia about policies of HEC.
