ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The two-day International Conference on “Quality Assurance System, Standards and Policies; Issues & Challenges” organized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in collaboration with the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) began in Islamabad on Wednesday.
President Dr Arif Alvi inaugurated the Conference being attended by academic experts from around the world.
The International Conference on Quality Assurance is aimed at to focus on ways to improve the quality of higher education and advance mutual understanding of international quality assurance standards.
The forum will enable the academic experts from around the world to share their best practices and identify mechanisms through which quality assurance system could contribute to sustain and enhance performance.
In his address at the Conference, President Arif Alvi emphasized that education should be focused on developing human intellect, however the whole effort should be relevant to needs of the society.
“Education must be a pleasure, which should not keep students under a stress of achievement,” the president said.
While addressing the Conference, the Chairman HEC Dr Tariq Banuri said that the Conference aims to start a national conversation about challenges in terms of quality of higher education.
The Chairman HEC emphasized that quality is not a destination, it is a continuous journey to sustain and enhance performance.
The Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood and the US Ambassador Paul W. Jones also graced the occasion.
