EducationHEC marks launch of Asi@Connect project

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Monday launched the Asi@Connect Project in Collaboration with the European Union (EU) and Trans Eurasia Information Network Cooperation Centre (TEIN*CC).

The project is aimed at bridging the digital divide across Asia Pacific by developing a dedicated regional high capacity Trans Eurasia Information Network for research and higher education, and leveraging the e-infrastructure developed for public service projects.

Asi@Connect will provide dedicated high-capacity internet connectivity for research and education communities across Asia-Pacific, operating at speeds of up to 10 Gbps, which currently interconnects universities and research centres in 23 countries across the region.

The Ambassador of EU to Pakistan Mr. Jean-Francois Cautain, was the Chief Guest at the launch event while the Parliamentary Secretary for Federal Education Ms. Wajiha Akram was the Guest of Honour.

The Chairman HEC Dr. Tariq Banuri and a large number of scholars and experts were also present.
