ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: An academic training programme funded by the High Education Commission (HEC) was launched on Monday at the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in Islamabad for capacity-building of the faculty members, those engaged in providing education through distance learning system.

The three-day training programme was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor AIOU Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui.

Speaking on the occasion, the VC AIOU urged the teachers to keep themselves updated about the latest knowledge and learning practices for delivering quality education. Old concepts of education and teaching practices needed to be reviewed to get the desired results, he asserted.

Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that the teachers should promote creative and critical thinking in the classrooms, so that the students could be able to have a better understanding and perception about their relevant subject.

The training was arranged by the University’s department of distance learning. It was part of the on-going University’s professional development’s activities.

According to the Deputy Registrar Training and development Dr Aftab Ahmed, there will be a number of training sessions during the programme, to be conducted by eminent educationists.

The AIOU) will soon launch non-formal teaching programmes in order to provide quality education to the people through distance learning system.

The University has recently arranged various training programmes for producing trained teachers through certified courses.

Those who spoke at the inaugural session included resource person Dr Shuja Ahmed of Peshawar University and the program’s coordinator Mubashra Tufail.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
