ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Higher Education Commission (HEC) has finalized all necessary arrangements for the development of newly established Women University at Bagh, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) with a total cost of Rs 886 million.

The amount will be spent on the development of academic infrastructure including new academic block, girl’s hostel, main library, medical center and lab equipment for physics, botany, zoology, chemistry and biotechnology.

Moreover, 21 Ph.D. scholarships included 8 foreign and 13 local has also been approved for faculty development.

According to the documents of HEC, the Planning Commission has recently approved PC-1 for the project of the university.

The Women University Bagh was established in 2014 and currently is offering programs in 10 disciplines, in which 1500 students are enrolled.

After completion of the project, the university will be able to accommodate 3500 students and 250 employees in various disciplines.

The AJK government has provided buildings and 72 kanals of land for the University.

The HEC funds will be utilized to expand the academic buildings and provide the necessary facilities for the students.

New labs will also be established by providing state-of-the-arts equipment in the teaching labs for science subjects.

The university was announced by the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on the popular demand of the people of AJ&K aiming at to provide equal opportunities to the female students because they are reluctant to go to other parts of the country or to join institutions with co-education system.

The jurisdiction of the Women University is whole of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and student intake is expected from all parts of AJK especially the adjoining areas of district Bagh.
