LAHORE: Dr. Tariq Rahman, Dean of School of Education, Beaconhouse National University has been awarded a Litt.D. (Doctor of Letters) degree by the University of Sheffield in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a researcher, scholar and author.
Two years ago, Dr. Tariq Rahman was asked by the University of Sheffield, UK to submit his published work for the examination of a higher doctorate. The examiners have now recommended him for Litt.D. at the Research and Innovation services of University of Sheffield.
Doctor of Letters is a higher doctorate, awarded in recognition of work of high distinction, which must be evidenced by publications of high repute. It is an examined degree, for the award of which a body of candidate’s published research work is submitted for examination to a team of examiners. The submitted work must constitute a major original contribution to the advancement or application of knowledge in profound ways, establishing the candidate as a leading authority in his/her field of study. It is only after all the examiners commend the work that the candidate is awarded the degree. Litt.D. is a rare academic title with a higher standing than a PhD degree. In Europe less than 1% of faculty gets a Litt.D. in the social sciences.
Besides this honor, Dr. Tariq Rahman has received various awards and honors for his work on language, art, culture and social developments, both at national and international level. Quite recently, he was given Sitara-i-Imtiaz, the third highest honor and civilian award in Pakistan, in recognition of his contributions in the field of Literature. He has also received Humboldt Research Award for his research and scholarly work.
